Words from the Board: Things I Love About Unity in Frederick

Fri, 07/05/2013 - 2:52pm -- Terri

Things I love about Unity in Frederick: coming into the building and being immediately enveloped by the healing energy of our sacred space -- I feel transported to a deeper level of awareness; the ongoing support and celebration of diversity in our spiritual community -- I feel very supported in being able to get married this year; the healing energy and support of each person’s individual spiritual path and growth-I feel greater understanding of my life vision and how to achieve it through the classes I attend; the building of community as exemplified in our Talent or Not Show- I had pure

A Unity Community

Wed, 05/01/2013 - 1:22pm -- Toni

When I first walked into Unity, I knew I had found what I didn’t even know I was looking for: a community of friends who treat each other like family.
Actually, our vision statement says it best:
Unity in Frederick is a vibrant and inclusive spiritual community, centered in God, making a difference by living and sharing the empowering principles of love, peace and prosperity through the expression of the Christ within.
I like that. And, I believe it!

Living in Gratitude

Wed, 05/01/2013 - 1:07pm -- Toni

“Recent research tells each one of us that there is a whole chemical shift that happens in our bodies when we decide — and then determine — to live from gratitude. It makes our immune system much more potent. It makes us able to keep ourselves in a healthy state, no matter what we’re around; it is almost as if a bubble of protection is around us. It is not something we can manufacture by pretending, but it is something we can create by entering into a field of gratitude.

Words on Healing from Charles Fillmore....

Wed, 05/01/2013 - 1:05pm -- Toni

Each Tuesday throughout April and May there is a morning class and an evening class here at Unity discussing the teachings of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore on healing and wholeness. Our focus is on understanding their approach to the healing process and to finding our wholeness. Recently, I received a copy of one of Charles Fillmore’s unpublished lessons entitled “What Is It That Heals?” This talk was given on August 8, 1915.
As part of ‘honoring our tradition,’ I want to share some of this work with you here:

Thoughts for the Season: Honoring our Roots - 20th Anniversary

Wed, 02/20/2013 - 4:09pm -- Toni

This year marks 20 years for Unity in Frederick. We will be looking back to honor our traditions – our roots – and looking ahead to envision and manifest our future. We will also be celebrating who and what we are in this moment!!!! We hope you will join us! As part of looking back to honor our roots, I will, from time to time, share the original words of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in the newsletter, in a blog on the website and in lessons on Sunday. I would like to start this in this Thoughts of the Season.

Tithing: Letting go and Letting God do it

Thu, 01/31/2013 - 2:39pm -- Toni

Georgiana Tree West, the founder of Unity Center of Practical Christianity in New York City, wrote the book, Prosperity’s Ten Commandments, that has been used by many a Unity minister over the years to help folks understand our way of seeing and living prosperity principles. I would like to share a paragraph from her discussion of the 4th Prosperity Commandment -- Thou shalt let go and let God do it.
(I have taken the liberty of updating some of the language. My words are in italics.)

Opposite Words from the Board

Thu, 01/31/2013 - 2:29pm -- Toni

The usual title of this column is “Words from the Board,” but this time I’m calling it Opposite Words from the Board. I decided to write about certain words and the images brought to mind when saying or hearing those words; just a little something to lighten the mood. (See how that works?)
Think lightness, brightness, upward, sky high, heavenly. Do your eyes automatically look up? Now think darkness, gloom, downward, hell. Got a scowl on your face yet? Try these: sunshine, soaring, warmth. And these: stark, cold, dreary. I hope you notice a difference.
